CLINTON COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP

Dr. Lester A. McCorn Selected as 13th President

It’s the official start of a new beginning for one of South Carolina’s most historic colleges.

The Clinton College Board of Trustees announced today that it has completed its search and has selected Dr. Lester A. McCorn as the 13th president of Rock Hill’s historically black college.

Dr. McCorn has been the acting president for the past year and has more than three decades of leadership experience. He joins Clinton College after serving as the senior pastor at Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

“As a product of an historically Black college and the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, this appointment allows me the opportunity to expand the very important mission of a faith-based institution of higher learning at a critical period in our nation’s history. I am committed to leading the College and serving the community with ‘Excellence Without Excuse,’ “ said Dr. McCorn.

Dr. McCorn succeeds Dr. Elaine Copeland, who retired in 2018 after leading as president for 16 years.

“Clinton is entering a growth phase and we’re projecting increases and advancements in student enrollment, physical plant, and state and federal funding and alumni and community support. We’re confident we have selected the right leader for such a time as this,” said Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Bishop Mildred B. Hines.

There will be a news conference with Dr. McCorn on Tuesday, August 21st, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. on campus.
