Wellness and Community Health Institute

Our Mission

To eliminate racial health disparities and ensure equitable community health outcomes.

Our Vision

A South Carolina in which informed and empowered citizens achieve health equity and a high quality of life.

Our Purpose

We are dedicated to understanding and addressing the unique health needs of the communities we serve. By engaging with local leaders and stakeholders, we ensure that our programs are culturally sensitive and effectively meet the needs of the population.

About Us

South Carolina’s Institutes of Innovation and Information (SCII), inspired by the late Senator John L. Scott, Jr.’s vision to revolutionize and cultivate the state’s seven four-year HBCUs overall capabilities and contributions for the citizens and resident of the state, will be a seamless conduit for partnerships between SCIII HBCUs and state business and industry, diversifying and improving the state’s workforce, retaining graduation students, and lifting the economy of the entire state.

The Wellness and Community Health (WACH) Institute was established to address racial health disparities and ensure equitable healthcare access for the Rock Hill community and that state of South Carolina. Founded in the summer of 2022, WACH has worked towards improved health outcomes in mental health, chronic disease and STI prevention.

Initiatives

Safe Folx is an initiative that aims to improve health equity of the Clinton College community as it relates to sexual health and wellness. With the use of educational programming on sexually transmitted infections (STI), STI screening on campus, access to contraceptive options, and creation of safe spaces for students of any identity, the program works to decrease students’ sexual risk factors

Beacon Buddies is an initiative to enhance the health and well-being of the Clinton College campus community through Peer education. In this initiative, trained students provide emotional, social, and educational support to their peers in a structured and safe environment. The program empowers students to engage in peer-to-peer interactions, offering guidance, encouragement, and resources on a variety of topics such as mental health, academic stress, wellness and personal challenges.

Nourish Now is an initiative aimed at addressing collegiate food hunger. With a goal of establishing an Integrative Food Council (IFC) at Clinton College, the program is designed to engage students, faculty, staff, and community partners in addressing food-related issues, fostering sustainable practices, and promoting awareness of food systems. The council utilizes an integrative approach, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise to collaboratively address food access and security, nutrition education, policy, and sustainability. By incorporating input from all stakeholders, the council works towards solutions that are inclusive, holistic, and sustainable for both the campus and the broader community.
